Clean Transportation

Achieving sustainable mobility

Rhode Island’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions come from several sources. The transportation sector is the largest source (39.7%) of greenhouse gas emissions. As we electrify more of our transportation system, those emissions will switch to the electricity consumption sector, which will then be eliminated by transition to renewable, zero-emission sources of electricity.

There are two ways to reduce emissions in the transportation sector: consume less fuel and consume lower-emissions fuel. To consume less fuel, we can discourage high-emissions driving and encourage low-emissions mobility solutions. To consume lower-emissions fuel, we need to encourage electric vehicles and expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Over the next few years, we can strengthen the groundwork for integrating climate into our investment decisions and take action to incentivize lower- emissions mobility.
