2021 Clean Energy Jobs Report As detailed in the 2021 Rhode Island Clean Energy Industry Report, the state’s clean energy sector employed 11,158 workers as of the fourth quarter of 2020. As the 2021 Report explains, like so many other areas of the state and national economies, local clean energy sector employment was not immune to the effects of the COVID pandemic. Despite the unexpected shock of COVID-19, Rhode Island’s clean energy labor market already appears to be bouncing back. Three-quarters of firms surveyed indicated that they had already brought back their laid off or furloughed clean energy staff. Clean energy job gains are likely to resume their pace in 2021 and 2022. Prior to COVID, RI’s clean energy sector had experienced a 77% increase in jobs since 2014. Our 2021 Report updates this information and reflects COVID's impact on the state, regional, and national economies.
