Energy Storage Statistics
Energy Storage in Rhode Island
In 2024, the Rhode Island General Assembly enacted the Energy Storage Systems Act (2024 – S 2499 Sub A), establishing targets to expand energy storage capacity across the state. The law requires Rhode Island to procure 90 megawatts (MW) of energy storage by 2026, 195 MW by 2028, and 600 MW by 2033. These benchmarks are intended to strengthen grid reliability, support the integration of renewable energy resources, and advance the state’s broader clean energy goals.
Tracking Progress
The Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources (OER) has developed the Energy Storage Statistics Dashboard to provide clear, up-to-date information on the state’s progress toward these targets. The dashboard presents data on installed and contracted energy storage capacity, offering a comprehensive view of how deployment is evolving over time and how it compares to the state’s statutory benchmarks.
By making this information publicly available, OER aims to support informed decision-making and highlight Rhode Island’s ongoing transition to a more resilient and sustainable energy system.
