  • Fall 2024

    The State launches Phase 2 NEVI Program – available statewide

  • June – August 2024

    • Develop and incorporate survey results into a guidance document for NEVI.

    • Publish guidance document for public comment – 30 days.

    • Finalize guidance document.

    • NEVI Phase 1 projects completed; The State of RI submits FHWA request for certification alternative fuel corridor built out.

    • The State of RI updates the FY25 RI NEVI Plan and submits it to FHWA by August 1, 2024.

  • April – May 2024

    • Construction of Phase 1 Park and Ride projects continues.

    • April 11 5:00-6:00pm : EV Charging Infrastructure in RI: Phase 2 in-person event at the Rhode Island Commerce Narragansett Conference Room 315 Iron Horse Way Suite 101 Providence, RI 02908 to discuss the future of EV charging stations in Rhode Island.

    April 24th: EV Charging Infrastructure in RI: Phase 2 Webinar from 6-7pm.

    • May 4, 2024: The Survey closes.

    • The project team reviews and analyzes the survey results.

  • March 2024

    • March 4, 2024: The State holds an event at the Ashaway Park and Ride to celebrate the ongoing progress of the Phase 1 EV charging project and launches the stakeholder/community outreach survey aimed at identifying locations for the subsequent round of NEVI-funded charging stations.

    March 28th: EV Charging Infrastructure in RI: Phase 2 Webinar from 12-1pm.

  • December 2023 – February 2024

    • December 20, 2023: RIOER awards for Phase 1, and the implementation phase begins.

    • The project team begins discussions and program planning for public outreach and engagement to receive feedback for Phase 2 approach. This includes a 60-day public comment period, along with webinars and listening sessions to provide information and gather feedback.

    • February 12, 2024: Construction begins at the Ashaway Park and Ride.

  • September - November 2023

    • The project team reviews received Requests for Quotes and selects vendors based on pass/fail criteria.

    • The Federal Highway Administration approves RI FY24 NEVI Plan

  • July – August 2023

    • RIOER cancels Request for Proposal (RFP) and issues Requests for Quotes (RFQ) for Phase 1 Park and Ride Projects.

    • The State of Rhode Island submits the RI FY24 NEVI Plan to The Federal Highway Administration.

  • May - June 2023

    • RFP receives one time extension

    • The project team carefully evaluates the received proposals and selects a vendor based on their review

  • April 2023

    RIOER releases a Request for Proposal for Phase 1 of the RI NEVI Program: April 25th

  • October 2022 – February 2023

    • The RI state agencies (RIOER, RIDOT and RIDEM) in collaboration with our consultant Jacobs Solutions, work on design and implementation process for Phase 1 of the RI NEVI Program 

    • February 15th: FHWA releases Final Minimum Standards for NEVI

  • September 2022

    The Federal Highway Administration approves RI FY23 NEVI Plan

  • July 2022

    The State of Rhode Island submits the RI FY23 NEVI Plan to The Federal Highway Administration

  • May – June 2022

    RIOER, RIDOT, RIDEM Public Engagement 

    • Public listening sessions and webinars held

  • February 2022

    • FHWA releases guidance  for the NEVI Formula Program within 90 days of enactment of the bill.

    • States nominate additional Alternative Fuel Corridors to support a national EV charging network

  • November 2021

    Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) signed into law. The National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program is established.
